PITTSBURGH WINERY PRESENTS : SONGWRITERS IN THE CELLAR Songwriters from Pittsburgh and beyond come together for a unique and intimate performance on the Pittsburgh Winery Cellar stage. For this edition Brooke Annibale hosts Casey Hanner of Donora, Judith Avers of the Early Mays and Mark Ramsey of Cold Weather.

Derived from popular songwriter circles in LA, Nashville and New York City, these performances transform the actual winery into an intimate listening room where the artists line up on stage together and take turns sharing songs and stories, while collaborating on each other’s material. This sets up a unique and spontaneous experience as eclectic groups of songwriters spanning multiple genres perform some of their very best material as they dig deep and inspire each other to take it to the next level. The magic of wine and song paired with the spectacular winery cellar vibe provides for an unforgettable evening.

A new thread in the rich tapestry of roots music in America, The Early Mays have burst on to the folk music scene with a #2 debut on the National Folk-DJ charts. Rhythmic, evocative, dark and wistful, their Appalachian-inspired folk songs are built on deep country sensibilities, masterful ballad singing and a sweet old-time sound. Their harmonies are “close, perfect, high and sweet–as natural as breathing” (LBSPY, Lewisburg, WV).

The Riveting Rosies, a local-favorite, is a charming and eclectic collective of Pittsburgh singer-songwriters consisting of Janet Ingram, Stacy Mates, Eve Goodman, Tracy M. Drach, and Heather Kropf.

Dreams of Hope Presents "The Lavender Spell"

The Fey, the world of the witches, is a world without bodies or divisions, without race, gender, or class. Powerful magic forces have torn a hole in the fabric of this world, leaving it vulnerable to the mortal realm. A young witch stands trial. Can they explain what led to this disaster, and why they cast the Lavender Spell?

In this magical dramedy, join the adventure of a young witch and a high school Gay-Straight Alliance as they try to create a better world at the risk of destroying two. Can they learn the true cost of power before it's too late?

What happens when the members of a high school Gay-Straight Alliance are given magic powers? When do good intentions turn bad? What is the cost of power?

PLEASE NOTE:
GLSEN Pittsburgh has generously donated tickets for anyone 19 years of age and younger wanting to attend the show. These tickets can be reserved by emailing info@dreamsofhope.org at least 24 hours before the performance.

Dreams of Hope will be collecting personal care and hygiene products at all shows, to be contributed to Cathy's Closet at the Pittsburgh GLCC. Cathy's Closet distributes personal care items to neighbors in need. Items include soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc. We are asking everyone attending a show to please bring an item - unscented if possible - for the drive.

With co-producer Lurch Rudyk of Broadcast Lane Studios (Sara Harmer, Kathleen Edwards, Rufus Wainwright), Judith, Ellen and Emily have poured their hearts--and all their experience--into this recording.  Live takes and vintage microphones recreate the enveloping spirit of their concerts, and the analog production makes the album sound like a folk gem from the late 1960s.  This new album, The Early Mays, shares the voices of these three friends.  These three great musicians.  It shares a spark that began three years ago and will hopefully leave you shining a little more brightly because of it.

In addition to learning about the structure of a song, lyrics, melodies, and bridges, she will provide tools to help you get past writer's block. She will help you channel your inspiration and bring all the elements together so that by the end of the day, you will have a rough draft of your song. Beginners are welcome - no experience necessary. Bring an instrument, if you would like. Bring a sack lunch, or take a break and visit one of the nearby restaurants. Judith Avers is a nationally known singer-songwriter based out of Pittsburgh, PA. A former West Virginia resident, she sings and plays guitar in an old-time inspired female trio band, The Early Mays. She also writes custom songs for people in 60 minutes. She recently gave a TEDx talk on this project, known as Songs in Sixty. Judith is a firm believer that creativity is a gift we all have, and that anyone can write a song! REGISTER: Call Carnegie Hall at 304-645-7917 - Cost: $40 for members; $50 for non-members
